The Story of SHICHITA

A stray cat wandered into a Mino ware pottery studio on Tanabata, the Star Festival celebrated on the seventh day of the seventh month. Seen as a sign of good fortune, the potters named the cat “Shichita.” This moment inspired the Shichita series, which combines relaxed cat characters with traditional Japanese patterns for a design that feels both playful and timeless.

This side bowl features the Scottish cat, recognizable by its rounded face, folded ears, and gently bashful expression. Illustrated in deep indigo (Gosu-iro) on a crisp white porcelain base, the design pairs whimsical charm with classic Japanese aesthetics.

The rich indigo tone, achieved through repeated dyeing, creates a striking contrast against the clean form of the bowl, while traditional patterns add depth and movement beneath the carefree cat motif.

Ideal for small salads, simmered dishes, sauces, or desserts, this shallow bowl is made for everyday use. Microwave safe and dishwasher safe, it brings practicality and refined Japanese craftsmanship to the table.
